a few of my favourite (writerly) things… and a wee celebration…

It’s only the 12th and already there’s so much happening in the writing world. So, today I thought I’d share some of the more exciting happenings that I’ve come across. Here are my top five.

The Joy of Books

This video has gone viral… and understandably so. It’s amazing and exactly what I imagine happens in bookstores when the doors close. A must watch. It’ll make your day.

Orwell classics free to watch online!

I’m very excited about this one. Who ever knew that you could watch Orwell’s classics Animal Farm and 1984 online for free! To save you having to hunt them down for yourself, I’ve popped them into this post. Select the full screen option and you’ll feel like you’re in your very own movie theatre! Thanks for the heads up Maria Popova (follow on twitter @brainpicker).

The Moat is now doing breki!

You should all know by now how crazy I am about breakfast. It’s, by far, my favourite meal of the day. So, you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I found out that the Wheeler Centre’s new cafe The Moat is now doing breki. Yay! Now I can pair my two loves each day, every day… well, not quite… not unless someone out there wants to sponsor my blog?

New e-journal: Review of Australian Fiction

Reviewer for The Australian Matthew Lamb has launched an online literary mag called Review of Australian Fiction. Each issue will contain a story by an emerging author and one by an established author and, it’ll be happening every two weeks! To launch the mag this fortnight are short stories from the highly esteemed Tsiolkas and his emerging writer of choice (the established author chooses the emerging) Kalinda Ashton. Subscription is a peachy $12.99 for 6 issues. Subscribe here.

SmartyKat has reached her 100th blog post!

O.K. so this one’s a bit of a cheeky one. It’s not really a happening of the ‘writing world’ as much as it is a happening of my world but I thought it was worth a mention anyway. This, officially, is my 100th blog post and, really, I could not think of a better way to celebrate than by sharing some writerly lovin’ with you all. So, a big, big thank you to you all for reading and responding and supporting.

On that note, it’s cheerio for now. Sink your teeth into some of the literary goodness above ’til next we meet.

xx SmartyKat
